Traditional Media to Digital Media

Traditional Media- T.V., newspapers, journals, magazines, billboards, handbills and flyers.  "Allows businesses to target a broad target audience through billboards, print advertising, television commercials, and more." (Staff, 2022) Traditional advertising reaches a broad audience. There targeted audiences with limited exceptions such as industry journals, magazines. T.V. Commercials are circulated during day for female viewers. Big business could afford splashy ads and Dancing Dr. Pepper Commercials with big budget productions.  


Traditional media was too expensive for small business, limiting their advertising capabilities. One way communication was passively watched, and read by consumers. Advertisers interrupted people to get them to pay attention, like commercials during a T.V. program to sell products. (Scott, 2011) 


Digital Media-With the introduction of the internet and development of online community customers, and potential customers now had a voice. They became the center focus on advertising from watching to creating content to posting on social media platforms like: 



 Twitter, Facebook Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, LinkedIn and the new platforms that are created each year. Small businesses engage their audience with posts and tweets encouraging responses from the public. They became big influencers with little or no money bringing their products and services to the public. The cell phone and iPad have are part of the invention of our new age that connects and responds, collecting and emitting data. Creating the Internet of Things. (Hirschberg, 2022) 

Changes to advertising culture-World wide access to information, shopping and personal connections to others 24/7. Customer service for companies are more responsive, resolving issues often in real time.
